Strawberry Gin Smash – LePlainCanvas

Strawberry Gin Smash

What could be finer than this summery Strawberry Gin Smash? This wonderful recipe comes from my favorite the Kitchn with its brilliant ideas. According to to the Kitchn a ‘smash’ is a ‘thing’. It is a cocktail involving herbs, sugar, fruit, and booze – which ones seem to be up to you. This pretty drink speaks for itself, with it’s the super tasty mixture of lime, sugar, strawberries, and gin, and a fashionable mint sprig garnish.

Try my Smash recipe as your Friday Cocktail, or feel free to fashion your own creations.

The Strawberry Gin Smash ingredients are very simple, you can get them anyway at your home. Grab some strawberry and you are good to go. We used the leftover to make some Strawberry Cakes.

Like the julep smashes have come to include all sorts of fruit, and this one showcases sweet, ripe red strawberries. You can choose your spirit — rum, brandy, whiskey, and gin (my favorite!) all work. Add lemon, lime juice, or bitters to muddle with your sugar, or skip the sugar and top with a spritz. Basil and lemon balm, as well as the traditional mint, have made their way into smashes, too.

Ingredients |

  • 3 Strawberry, sliced
  • 2 tbsp of Gin
  • 250 ml of Tonic Water
  • 1 tbsp of caster sugar
  • Juice from a quarter lime wedge
  • Sprig of fresh mint to garnish

Method |

Take a big tumbler and add the teaspoon of sugar. Squeeze the quarter of lime onto the sugar and give it a stir. Slice 2 of the strawberries and add them to the sugar and lime. Give them a slight muddle with a teaspoon then add a handful of ice. Pour on the gin, top up with tonic water, stir then garnish with a sprig of fresh mint. Guzzle this refreshing drink at your leisure.
