Moodboard | Simple Pantry

Not everyone has the urge to Marie Kondo their place, even if they’re stuck at home with plenty of time to spare. “Organizing can be a stressful and daunting task for some, especially if you’re looking at all the items you have at once,” says Rob Truglia of MakeSpace Storage. “It’s best to start off by determining what areas you need to clean and go from there.”

Although our pantry is not anywhere to perfect, here are some tips for those who want to get things started.

Start slow. “Don’t try to reorganize your entire home all at once. Don’t even devote a whole hour to organizing if you don’t feel like it. Start slow with 15- or 30-minute sessions.”

Ditch the Packaging. Make the most of precious space by ditching the packaging. All the plastic and boxes that come with paper towels, garbage bags, etc. take up more space than you realize. Plus, it looks way cleaner and streamlined.

Utilize Vertical Storage Space. We took advantage of vertical storage space, storing frequent-use items at arms’ reach and occasional-use items stowed on the highest shelves.

Baskets, Baskets, Baskets. We utilized pretty baskets to tuck unsightly items away. Vacuum parts, appliance parts, BBQ tools, and other not so shelf worthy items were stowed away in deep, uniform, baskets. We clipped matching custom labels onto the baskets to make it easy to find what we need and maintain order.

Glass Jars. Transfer pantry staples like flour, sugar, pasta, rice, and nuts into stylish glass jars for a simple and quick visual inventory.

Incorporate Natural Materials. We ditched most of the plastic (can’t wait to get rid of them soon) and opted for natural materials like wood, glass, and seagrass to house utilitarian items.

There is still so much to do for the kitchen, however most important is to maintain the cleanest and organization of it before it getting messy again after the packing.

xoxo, Joe
