Cafe Explorer: Space Coffee

SPACE COFFEE is a new hidden 45-seater cafe space with industrial vibes found at Geylang. Yes, there is finally another cafe opening at Geylang – known for a certain reputation and is lined with many Chinese eateries and supper places.

Located along one of the shophouses along Geylang Road (opposite the famous JB Ah Meng, SPACE COFFEE is pretty spacious, well-designed to looked like an enclave. From the cemented walls and floors to muted tones used in their furnitures, the space is equipped with bespoke lighting to create a warm and cosy ambience.

What’s caught our attention to make a visit, other than the space of the cafe the dish Space C.C ($15) caught our attention, a $15 fried carrot cake dish, topped with egg, prawns, chai-po (preserved radish), coriander and house-made sambal sauce.

While it is heartening to see our local dish elevated and served in a cafe, the price tag do deters many people as one can easily get it elsewhere at a fraction of the price. The sambal sauce was ‘shiok’ though, with a delightful spicy kick balanced by the other sauces. Texture-wise, there was a good mix of chewy textures of the carrot cake, fluffy-ness of the egg and crunchiness of the chai-po.
