How To Make Avocado Sushi Bowl

Our all time favorite Japanese meals will be Chirashi Bowl – also called chirashizushi. The word “chirashi” means “scattered,” so this is primarily a big bowl of rice mixed with seafood especially fishes, vegetables, and additional ingredients of your choice. We love this dish a lot because it always filled with all our favorites in that delicious one-bowl meal. Therefore being inspired by the Chirashi Bowl, we decided to share the making of our version of Avocado Sushi Bowl with you.

If you’re in the mood of avocado, no raw fishes yet sushi, you will love this! There are almost no limits to what ingredients go in Chirashi, therefore, we adopted the idea and make our Avocado Sushi Bowl. There are many variations to the sushi bowl, let’s start with the rice. Traditionally sushi rice is used and the rice needs to be made ahead and cooled before using. So make sure you prepare the rice first!

Vegetables, seafood, prepared foods, fish roe, tsukemono (Japanese pickles,) and eggs of your choice. You can use a lot of things or just a few things. Remember that this is a versatile dish, so don’t worry if you can’t find a lot of the ingredients that I used.

We have been thinking, “what is a sushi bowl without wasabi?”, thus it is a must for us to have it. However just having the wasabi at the side make it taste dry. Therefore, we decided to make a Wasabi Mayonnaise Sauce for this recipe. This sauce is very easy to make. For above version, you will need 3 tbsp of Mayonnaise and also 1 tbsp of Wasabi. Mix them up and create the best sensation you will ever have. If you are a wasabi lover, add more of them to the mayonnaise. You will love it just like us.

Ingredients |

Sushi Rice:

  • 2 cups of sushi rice – note, you can use brown short-grain rice if you want.
  • 1 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. sesame seed (optional)

Wasabi Mayonnaise Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp of Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp of Wasabi

Some topping suggestions:

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Umeboshi (Japanese pickled plum)
  • Seaweed
  • Sea Urchin
  • Mushroom
  • Sweet Beancurd Skin

Method |

Cook the rice and let stand for 10 minutes. Add to a bowl with the rice vinegar and mix well. Add the sesame seeds and the rice seasoning if you desire, and mix well.

Mix up the 2 ingredients for the sauce.

Done preparing all the ingredients that you need? Now you can serve them in a pretty small bowl and drizzle the sauce on it. 楽しんで!

We hope you like them! Share with us your version! Take a photo of yours, send us an email, tag us on Instagram, tweet us, anything. We love to see yours!

xoxo, Angela
